Thatched Houses

cottage

(English version at the end of the page)

Chocolate Box Selfie

English Version:

Here in the UK, especially in the countryside where I live, it’s very common to find houses with a roof made of straw, the famous Thatched Roof.

The first impression we have is that these are houses that come out of children’s books, like Alice in Wonderland for instance.

The Thatched cottages are extremely expensive mainly due to their roofs.

The thatching technique is usually a skill that passes on from father to son.

Many of these houses or cottages are also known as “chocolate boxes” because they resemble those houses that illustrate many chocolate boxes.

If you want to know more about this technique, I suggest you have a look on YouTube as there are loads of cool videos there 😉

IMG_20150815_111901 IMG_20150815_112535

Hiyah! / Ola!

This post will be both in English and Portuguese (se voce so entende portugues, continue lendo / if you only understand English, please scroll down)

Here’s the English version:

The British are famous for many things: tea, the Royal family, the weather, for being polite and many other things! Cards for all occasions (I said A L L) is one of them.

In my very first year living in the UK I was amazed by the amount of cards I received: Christmas, Easter, birthday, new house, wedding, for having passed my driving test (yes, I did say for all occasions lol) etc

To be honest? I loooooooove receiving cards! Nowadays with social networks and apps I find it really rare to get a phone call let alone receive a handwritten card? Not to mention that the sender went to the shop, picked one out, bought it, wrote it, went to the post office and sent it. And they did all this thinking of the recipient! Isn’t it groovy?

People in Brazil already know when they get a coloured envelop with the HRH’s stamp in the post – it could only have been sent by me 😉
